Pailo
Bridging the AI Gap for Young Learners
What it does
Pailo is an AI companion designed specifically for tweens and teens (ages 8-15). It aims to bridge the gap between overly simplistic AI for young children and complex tools for adults. Key features include:
• Personalized avatars that users can design themselves
• Language and explanations tailored to tweens/teens
• Judgment-free environment for asking questions
• Adapts as the user grows and interests change
• Makes learning more engaging and fun
Pailo is positioned as more than just an educational tool - it's described as a "digital buddy" that grows with the user through their formative years. The concept emphasizes personalization, age-appropriate interactions, and creating an emotional connection to make learning more natural and enjoyable for this age group.
We’ve used Generative AI API model gemini-1.5-flash for this MVP. We tested the app with gemini-1.5-pro as well but decided to go with a lighter model 1.5-flash due to its light-weight.
We've spent some time on prompt engineering by personalizing it with a unique name for every user that they’ll give, and interacting with users using their preferred name. We have used HarmCategory and HarmBlockThreshold from Google’s generative-ai library as well to ensure the AI is meant for kids.
